Crowns

Crowns are synthetic caps, usually made of a material like porcelain, placed on the top of a tooth. They are typically used to restore a tooth's function and appearance following a restorative procedure such as a root canal.

One of the most exciting areas of dentistry is dental materials. Our grandparents had the choice of keeping their aching teeth or getting a denture. Our parents were given the choice between ugly mercury amalgam fillings or gold crowns. The next big advancement was porcelain fused to metal. At least, the teeth were whitish but they still didn't look 'real'. Now, we have the ability to mimic real teeth. Let me show you a few examples,

The patient had an accident as a child and the tooth was permanently damaged. The darkness is basically a bruise inside the tooth. Unfortunately, the only way to mask the darkness was with a crown. But look how beautiful the tooth is. No one would ever know.
The secret is that there is no metal under the crown. We have strong materials that allow translucency through the tooth. This is why it looks so real. A porcelain fused to metal always looks more flat. Light cannot shine through it like a natural tooth or these new crowns.
Don't settle for anything less.
